Whether it's your website, your emails, or your domain name, our team takes care of everything: access analysis, data transfer, service configuration, testing... With many hosting providers, a complete migration (site, emails, DNS, domain) is an additional paid service — sometimes costing several hundred euros depending on the complexity. At Hodi, it's free when you place an order, regardless of the type of site or the number of mailboxes to transfer.

What is the general procedure for a website migration?

Here are the main steps followed during a website migration at Hodi:

  1. You: Order the hosting at Hodi.
  2. We: Initiate the domain name transfer (7 to 10 days) if applicable.
  3. We: Contact you regarding the migration.
  4. You: Provide access to your current registrar and hosting provider's management interface

(if this is not possible, we will need a DNS zone export from the previous host and SSH/FTP access).

  1. We: Validate the access credentials.
  2. We: Set up the DNS zone on our servers.
  3. We: Copy the data from the current hosting.
  4. We: Perform non-regression testing on the website.
  5. We: Switch the site to Hodi's servers

(if we do not have access to your hosting provider's management interface, and you wish to switch before the domain transfer, you will need to perform the switch yourself, with the help of our support).

Warning: it is not possible for Hodi to migrate sites built with no-code tools like Wix or Webflow, but you can easily recreate them with Sitejet Builder.

Case 1 – Migrating a brochure website

For a brochure website (e.g., a corporate site), the migration goes smoothly:

  • You must not make any changes to the site during the entire migration phase, to avoid losing content.

Case 2 – Migrating a WordPress site

For a brochure website (e.g., a corporate site), the migration goes smoothly:

  • As with a brochure site, you must not make any changes to the site during the entire migration phase, to avoid losing content.
  • We use WP All In One Migration to migrate your site: we will therefore need administrator access to your WordPress.

This procedure is not applicable for a WooCommerce site.

Case 3 – Migrating an e-commerce site

An e-commerce site requires additional precautions:

  • Before the final switch, you must enable maintenance mode on your site (PrestaShop, WooCommerce, etc.).
  • This prevents any order loss while we finalize the database copy.
  • Once the database is re-copied, we perform tests and carry out the switch.
  • Once switched, you disable maintenance mode on your site.

What is the general procedure for an email address migration?

Here are the main steps followed during an email address migration at Hodi:

  1. You: Order the hosting at Hodi.
  2. We: Initiate the domain name transfer (7 to 10 days) if applicable.
  3. We: Contact you regarding the migration.
  4. You: Provide access to your current registrar and hosting provider's management interface

(if this is not possible, we will need a DNS zone export from the previous host).

  1. You: Provide the complete list of email addresses to migrate, with login credentials (address + password).
  2. We: Validate the access credentials.
  3. We: Create the mailboxes on our server.
  4. We: Copy the existing messages to the new mailboxes on our server from your current IMAP server.
  5. You: Verify via our webmail that the data is properly present.
  6. We: Switch the mail server to Hodi's servers after the domain transfer or DNS server change.
  7. You: Update your workstation configurations to connect to our server.
  8. We: Run a final synchronization to retrieve the last emails received on the old server.

Warning: it is not possible for Hodi to migrate mailboxes hosted by Google or Microsoft, due to restrictions put in place by these providers to prevent migrations.
