Can I migrate my Wix, Squarespace, or other site to Hodi?
The basic idea: your content is yours, your site isn't always
There are two things to distinguish here.
On one hand, there's your content: your text, images, products, and customer list. This belongs to you, and most platforms let you export it (often as CSV or XML files).
On the other hand, there's the site itself: the layout, the design, the code that makes it all run. On "easy" platforms, that code is never handed over to you. It remains the platform's property and only works on its own servers.
These platforms are designed to get you online very quickly, with no technical skills needed, and in exchange your site lives within their ecosystem.
What this means for you in practice
Migrating a Wix or Squarespace site to another host isn't a matter of "copying and pasting" the existing site. In practice, it needs to be rebuilt, using the content you've exported. It's doable, but it's a project in its own right, not a simple file transfer. You'll sometimes come across third-party tools that promise to automatically "export" a Wix or Framer site to HTML. We prefer to be upfront: these tools produce partial, often fragile results, and can run counter to the origin platform's terms of use. That's not a solid foundation for a professional site you want to keep for years.
Platform by platform
Platform | Retrieve the content | Retrieve the site's code | Host with Hodi or elsewhere |
|---|---|---|---|
Wix | Yes (CSV: products, contacts) | No | No |
Squarespace | Partial (XML content export) | No | No |
Weebly | Partial | No | No |
Jimdo | Partial | No | No |
GoDaddy Website Builder | Partial | No | No |
β | No | No | |
Framer | β | No (no native export) | No |
Shopify | β | Partial (the theme, not the store) | No (the store stays on Shopify) |
Webflow | β | β on a paid Workspace plan (excluding CMS/e-commerce) | β (with caveats) |
WordPress (self-hosted) | β | β (open source) | β |
Lovable and AI generators (Bolt, v0, Cursorβ¦) | β | β (exportable React code via GitHub) | β |
Custom-coded site | β | β | β |
This information changes regularly as platforms update their offerings. If you're unsure about a specific case, the safest approach is to ask the platform's support team directly: "Can I export my site's full source code to host it elsewhere?" Their answer will make things clear right away.
