Can I schedule updates for my Odoo instance?

Yes. Hodiploy lets you choose between triggering Odoo version updates yourself, or scheduling them to run automatically at a specific time, without having to think about it.

What this update covers

This refers to updating the version of Odoo itself. This setting is independent of the deployment of your custom code via Git, which remains driven separately by your repository and your webhook.

Where to configure this setting

  1. Log in to Hodiploy from your Client Area
  2. Select the relevant instance from your list
  3. Click "Edit" to modify the instance
  4. Find the section related to updates

The two available modes

  • Manual: You decide yourself when the update is applied, triggering it whenever suits you.
  • Automatic: You set a time slot and a time zone, and the update runs by itself as soon as a new version is available.

In both cases, the update is based on the official Odoo image published on Docker Hub, for the version you chose when creating your instance. In automatic mode, as soon as a new image is available for that version, it is retrieved and applied at the time slot you defined.

For example, if your instance uses Odoo version 19 and automatic mode is configured, every new update to the version 19 image published on Docker Hub will be applied to your instance, at the time slot you defined.

Automatic mode is particularly useful for scheduling your updates outside of usage hours, for example in the middle of the night, to minimize the impact on your users.

A redeployment to plan for

As with any configuration change on your instance, an update triggers a redeployment. If you're in manual mode, choose a time when no one is working on the instance before triggering it. If you're in automatic mode, make sure to set a time slot that doesn't conflict with your users' activity.
