Hodi is a French company. Is my data subject to foreign legislation?

This is a legitimate question, and the answer comes in two parts.

Hodi is a French company, and therefore subject to the GDPR, the most demanding data protection framework to date. In practical terms, no foreign authority can demand access to data we host solely on the basis of its own national legislation: the GDPR makes this type of transfer conditional on an international agreement, such as a mutual legal assistance treaty (Article 48 of the GDPR). Being French is a further layer of protection here, not a constraint.

At the same time, your data is hosted in the country you choose, as close as possible to your users, and your backups are located according to your legal needs. This way, you combine the rigor of the European framework with the proximity of local hosting.

A point of transparency: location alone does not neutralize all risk of access by a foreign authority, particularly when software from non-European vendors is part of the technical chain. This is precisely the issue we address with you on a case-by-case basis, and the reason we are working to reduce these dependencies.
