How does the migration of my hosting with Hodi work?
At Hodi, we handle the entire migration process for you, securely and under supervision. Whether it's your website, your emails, or your domain name, our team takes care of everything: access analysis, data transfer, service configuration, testing... You're guided every step of the way to ensure a smooth transition, with no service interruption.
Did you know?
With many hosting providers, a full migration (site, emails, DNS, domain) is billed as an extra service - sometimes several hundred euros depending on complexity. At Hodi, it's included with your order, whatever the type of site or the number of mailboxes to transfer.
What's the general procedure for migrating a website?
Here are the main steps followed when migrating a website with Hodi:
- You: Order your hosting with Hodi.
- Us: Start the domain name transfer (7 to 10 days), if applicable.
- Us: Get in touch with you about the migration.
- You: Provide access to the management interface of your current registrar and hosting provider
(if this isn't possible, we'll need a DNS zone export from your previous host and SSH/FTP access).
- Us: Validate the access provided.
- Us: Set up the DNS zone on our servers.
- Us: Copy the data from your current hosting.
- Us: Run regression tests on the website.
- Us: Switch the site over to Hodi's servers
(if we don't have access to your hosting provider's management interface and you want to switch before the domain transfer, you'll need to carry out the switch yourself, with help from our support team).
Warning: Hodi cannot migrate sites built with no-code tools like Wix or Webflow, but you can easily recreate them with Sitejet Builder.
Case 1 - Migrating a showcase site
For a showcase site (a corporate site, for example), the migration goes smoothly:
- You must not make any changes to the site during the entire migration phase, to avoid losing content.
Case 2 - Migrating a WordPress site
For a showcase site (a corporate site, for example), the migration goes smoothly:
- As with a showcase site, you must not make any changes to the site during the entire migration phase, to avoid losing content.
- We use WP All In One Migration to migrate your site, so we'll need administrator access to your WordPress.
This procedure does not apply to a site using WooCommerce.
Case 3 - Migrating an e-commerce site
An e-commerce site requires extra precautions:
- Before the final switch-over, you must enable maintenance mode on your site (PrestaShop, WooCommerce, etc.).
- This prevents any lost orders while we finish copying the database.
- Once the database has been re-copied, we run our tests and carry out the switch-over.
- Once switched over, you can disable maintenance mode on your site.
What's the general procedure for migrating email addresses?
Here are the main steps followed when migrating email addresses with Hodi:
- You: Order your hosting with Hodi.
- Us: Start the domain name transfer (7 to 10 days), if applicable.
- Us: Get in touch with you about the migration.
- You: Provide access to the management interface of your current registrar and hosting provider
(if this isn't possible, we'll need a DNS zone export from your previous host).
- You: Provide the full list of email addresses to migrate, along with the login credentials (address + password).
- Us: Validate the access provided.
- Us: Create the mailboxes on our server.
- Us: Copy existing messages to the new mailboxes on our server from your current IMAP server.
- You: Check via our webmail that the data is all there.
- Us: Switch the mail server over to Hodi's servers after the domain transfer, or once the domain's DNS servers have been changed.
- You: Update the configuration on your workstations to connect to our server.
- Us: Run one final sync to retrieve the latest emails received on the old server.
Warning: Hodi cannot migrate mailboxes hosted by Google or Microsoft, due to restrictions these providers have put in place to prevent migrations.
