What is email spoofing?

Email spoofing is a fraudulent technique used to make it appear

that an email comes from a legitimate address when it was actually sent by a malicious third party.

This type of attack is often used to:

  • deceive the recipient,
  • spread viruses or malicious links,
  • or obtain confidential information (phishing).

How to tell if an email has been spoofed?

Here are some signs that may alert you:

  • The sender appears to be a legitimate address, but the content is strange or suspicious.

  • As the domain name owner, the address used is unknown to you.
