Can I choose the country where my data is backed up?

It depends on your hosting type and your plan. Here are the different cases.

On standard plans

  • Web hosting: your data is automatically backed up out-of-country, to a second data center. This location is part of the standard setup and can't be customized on demand.
  • Dedicated virtual server: your data is backed up in-country, a choice designed to meet compliance and regulatory requirements, in particular the data-localization obligations that are developing across the continent.

With the Managed DRP option (dedicated server)

If you subscribe to the Managed DRP option on a dedicated server, you move from a fixed location to a real choice: you decide where your data is backed up, based on your legal and operational constraints. This is especially useful if your industry requires a specific location, or if your replication strategy needs to meet a particular regulatory framework.

Why this framework?

Data localization is a sensitive topic in Africa, where laws evolve country by country. Our approach is simple: give you the right level of control without ever overselling. We don't claim to eliminate all risk with a snap of the fingers: we give you concrete levers to strengthen the compliance of your hosting, based on your actual obligations.
