How does an SSL certificate work?

When a user accesses a secure website via HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure), the web browser establishes a secure connection with the server using the SSL/TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol. The server's SSL certificate is used to verify the server's identity and encrypt the data exchanged between the server and the browser.
