Split delivery: combining Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace with Hodi mailboxes
In brief
Split delivery lets you host some of a domain's email addresses on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and the rest with Hodi — all on the same domain name (for example @your-company.re).
Your users see no difference: the same @your-company.re address, whether it is hosted on Microsoft, Google or Hodi.
Why use it? The benefit: cut your costs
Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace licences are billed per mailbox, per month. Yet not all of your addresses need a full licence:
- functional addresses: contact@, info@, accounts@, support@…
- aliases and secondary addresses;
- low-volume users who do not need the office suite.
By moving these addresses to Hodi mailboxes — significantly cheaper than a Microsoft / Google licence, you reduce your bill while keeping your "premium" users on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.
Example: a company with 20 addresses can keep just 8 Microsoft 365 licences and host the other 12 with Hodi, for significant savings every month.
How it works
Depending on your setup, incoming mail arrives first at your provider (Microsoft / Google) or at Hodi. Either way:
- an address hosted at Hodi is delivered to the Hodi mailbox;
- an address hosted at Microsoft / Google is forwarded automatically to the provider.
The split is completely transparent to senders and to your users.
What you need to know
- Configuration happens on both sides: at your provider (Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace) and on the Hodi platform. The two must be consistent for mail to flow correctly.
- Any given address is hosted in a single place: either at Hodi or at your provider (not both at once).
- Anti-spam authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) must include both senders. We take care of this during deployment.
Enabling split delivery
Setting this up requires a coordinated technical change. Contact us and we will deploy the configuration for you.
Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace documentation
For the provider-side setup, refer to their official documentation:
- Microsoft 365 — mail flow, connectors and domain sharing: Microsoft Learn documentation ("mail flow / connectors").
- Google Workspace — the "Split delivery" feature (Admin console → Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail → Routing): Google admin Help Center.
If in doubt, contact Microsoft or Google support, or your reseller, for assistance.
