Domain Name Ownership Certificate: how to obtain it and what it's for

What is an ownership certificate?

The domain name ownership certificate is an official document issued by Hodi SAS that certifies, as of the current date, who the registered holder of a domain name is. It includes the holder's contact details from the whois (registrar) databases, as well as the domain's creation and expiry dates.

What is this certificate for?

This document meets several administrative and business needs:

• Administrative procedures: proving ownership of a domain name to an administration, bank, or public body.
• Trademarks and intellectual property: establishing the priority of a domain name in trademark-related proceedings.
• Disputes and legal proceedings: providing documented proof of domain ownership.
• Audits and certifications: justifying the use of a domain name on behalf of a specific entity.
• Assignments and transfers: providing proof of ownership during a domain transfer.

How to obtain your certificate?

1. Log in to your Hodi Client Area.
2. Go to the details of the domain name in question.
3. In the "Manage" section, click Ownership certificate.
4. The PDF document is generated automatically with the holder's details retrieved in real time from the registrar.

How do I verify a certificate's authenticity?

Each certificate includes a QR code and a unique verification code (in the format T-XXXXXXXX). To verify that a document is authentic:

1. Scan the QR code with your phone, or
2. Go to www.hodi.host/attestation and enter the verification code.

The verification page displays the certificate's information (domain name, dates, holder) and indicates whether it is still up to date.

What happens if the information changes?

If the domain holder is changed, or if the domain expires or is transferred after the certificate was issued, the verification page displays an "Outdated document" warning. In that case, you need to generate a new certificate from your Client Area.

Which domains is it available for?

The certificate is available for all active domain names in your Client Area, provided the registrar allows lookup of the holder's details.

Is the document renewed?

A new verification code is generated each time you download the certificate, or sooner if the holder's or domain's information has changed. Previous certificates remain verifiable online as long as they are up to date.
