EDR and SOC: what do these advanced cybersecurity options add to my VPS?

Starting point: security already included

Your VPS already comes with a baseline of protection: a firewall, restricted administration ports, infrastructure monitoring. For many use cases, this baseline is enough. But if your server hosts sensitive data, a critical application, or a highly exposed activity, you can strengthen it with our advanced cybersecurity option: MDR.

One clarification up front, in the interest of honesty: no solution makes a server impenetrable. MDR does not "guarantee" your security, it reduces the risk and shortens detection and response time in the event of an incident. That's its real value.

MDR: managed detection, end to end

MDR stands for Managed Detection and Response. It's a complete service that combines two inseparable elements: a tool, EDR, and a team, the SOC. At Hodi, these two building blocks always go together — we don't offer the tool without the experts who operate it, since a tool left on its own loses most of its value.

EDR: detecting and responding on your server

EDR stands for Endpoint Detection and Response. Here, the "endpoint" is your VPS itself.

Where a traditional antivirus only spots known threats, an EDR continuously monitors the behavior of your server: suspicious processes, abnormal connections, privilege escalation attempts, unusually modified files. When it detects risky behavior, it alerts and can react automatically — isolating a process, blocking an action — before the incident spreads.

SOC: experts watching 24/7

SOC stands for Security Operations Center. It's the human team that acts on the alerts raised by the EDR, 24/7.

The EDR generates signal; the SOC gives it meaning. Analysts triage alerts, dismiss false positives, qualify real ones, and trigger the appropriate response. This avoids two common pitfalls: an important alert lost in the noise, and an incident that happens on a Sunday at 3am with no one to respond.

And in practical terms, for you?

You no longer depend solely on your own vigilance or your working hours. An attack that bypasses traditional defenses is far more likely to be spotted early, rather than after the damage is done, and is then handled by experts without waiting for you to notice it.

Who this is for

Mainly for VPS running a critical business application, personal or financial data, a high-traffic e-commerce site, or an activity subject to compliance requirements.

How to activate MDR

It's an à la carte option: you can activate it in a few clicks on the "MDR - Managed cybersecurity" page.
