How do I restore a backup of my dedicated server?
A mishandled change, an update gone wrong, or simply the need to recover a file deleted by mistake. Good news: your dedicated server is backed up automatically. But you still need to know how restoration works, since it depends directly on the backup option you've subscribed to.
First, what type of backup do you have?
As with all our hosting services, your dedicated server benefits from a DRP/BCP-type backup, performed every night with a seven-day retention period. However, this backup is not directly accessible to you - it's only used by our team in the event of a major incident requiring a disaster recovery.
To restore specific items yourself (a file, a database, a folder), you need to have subscribed to one of our granular backup options, based on Acronis and available in two tiers.
- Granular out-of-country backup (250 GB). 20 € per month, storage in an Acronis data center of your choice (EU or Africa)
- Granular backup and out-of-country managed DRP. 60 € per month, up to 2 TB, DRP included with a 2h RTO, storage in an Acronis data center of your choice (EU or Africa)
It's one of these two options that gives you access to an online interface for restoring what you need, when you need it.
If you're not sure which option you've subscribed to, contact us via chat or by email at technique@hodi.host, and we'll confirm it for you quickly.
Restoring it yourself via the online interface
If you have one of these two options, you can restore individual items directly from the Acronis management interface, without going through our support team each time. How you obtain this access differs depending on your server type.
- Unmanaged dedicated server. Your access to the Acronis interface is automatically created and sent to you following your order - you don't need to request anything.
- Managed dedicated server. Your access isn't created automatically - you first need to request it by email at technique@hodi.host. We prefer email over chat for this type of request, as it lets us keep a written record and verify that the person requesting this access is indeed authorized to do so on your behalf.
Once you have this access, you'll be able to restore a file, folder, or database in just a few clicks, fully on your own.
If you're on a managed server and haven't requested this access yet, or if you'd rather not deal with it, simply contact us directly for each restoration, as explained below.
One important thing to keep in mind. These granular backups are stored in a data center separate from the one hosting your server, in the country of your choice (EU or Africa). We therefore cannot guarantee any restoration timeframe, as it can depend on the availability and performance of international links, including submarine cables.
Asking our team to do it for you
Would you rather we take care of it for you? That's possible, even if you're on an unmanaged dedicated server and already have independent access to the Acronis interface. Contact us by email at technique@hodi.host, specifying the item to restore (file, folder, database) and the desired backup date.
This service is billed at 79 € excl. VAT per request for unmanaged dedicated servers. If you have a managed dedicated server, this restoration is included free of charge in your plan.
The case of servers located outside the European Union
Not to be confused with the name of our backup plans ("out-of-country", which refers only to where the backup is stored). Here, we mean the location of your server itself. If your dedicated server is located outside the European Union, be aware that only an Acronis granular backup option provides genuine disaster recovery with operational guarantees, particularly against the political, regulatory, or technical risks specific to certain territories. If you haven't subscribed to any of these options on this type of server, we unfortunately cannot guarantee the recovery of your data in the event of loss.
Another question?
Our team remains available via chat for any general questions about your backup options. For anything involving an action on your server (requesting Acronis access if you're on a managed server, requesting a restoration), please use email at technique@hodi.host, which allows us to verify your identity before taking action.
